Mid November 2023 update
The West Gardiner Historical Society Museum building is going up quite quickly. Bob Bower and his company have done a great job. Please drive by 310 Spears Corner Road to take a look at it. It is located across from the Helen Thompson Elementary School playground.
The windows and doors will be next. Here are a few pictures of the building.
Please hold off on historical donations to put in the building until it is water tight. Hopefully, that will be in about 60 days. Thank you all.
The next meeting of the Historical Society will be January 17. 2024 at 5:30 PM at the Auxiliary Hall.
Early August 2023 update
The West Gardiner Historical Society will have its next meeting on August 16, 2023 at 5:30 PM at the Auxiliary Hall.
In July, 2023 the contract for the building of the new historical society building was awarded to Bob Bower. He will begin construction in the near future and will build it according to the plans provided and posted at the West Gardiner Town Meeting on April 1, 2023. It will be a watertight building but will not have siding and will not be completely finished inside. The funding for the building was limited to just over $200,000 and the contract could not exceed the budgeted amount. The West Gardiner Historical Society plans to go back to the townspeople in 2024 to request the funding that would be needed to complete the building.
It is the hope of the Historical Society that it will be completed and ready for West Gardiner's 175th Anniversary celebration in August, 2025.
